What I've been missing all these years!
Wholly moley! Apple pie is fan-freaking-tastic! Yum!
For the last, I don't know, eighteen years or so, I've been afraid of food. Well, more honestly, afraid to try something new that wasn't sugar based. I have a fear of bananas. I take a deep breath of hope before predictably deciding not to try green beans.
When I started the specific carbohydrate diet for the better part of October, I promised myself I would try a lot of new foods. And I did. I spit mouthfulls of banana and squash into the trash, I gagged down bites of zuchini. Three times now I've tried oranges and three times I've decided I really don't like them. (But curiously, pulp-free orange juice is just fine.)
But the upshot is that my distaste for peas, carrots, corn, salads (ceasar, but its a start!), and apples pales in comparison to each of those, so through continued efforts, I'm actually starting to like them.
I've also discovered that I like grapes, strawberries (the seeds still kind of freak me out), cooked onions, and as of Thursday night, hot apple pie! (Thanks for making me bring a slice home, Ed!)
Man, I've really been missing out all these years. My fear of foreign textures being mushed up in my mouth has precluded me from giving modest effort to even something as simple as this. But I tried it, loved it, and told Megan that if she were to make an apple pie, I'd devour it!
Here's hoping she does!
