Names

Funny things, Names. The obvious one to point out is my own. By birth, Jason; and later, by choice (well, sort of) Adam. The way my Mum tells it, people often mistakenly think she has 4 children, because in stories from before the switch she refers to me by my then-name Jason, and in stories post-switch, by Adam. My brother Justin was nearly Joshua — changed at the last minute at the insistence of yours truly. My brothers and I all have the same initials: J—A—T, entirely intentionally, and — again, according to my Mum, and with the benefit of hindsight — not something anyone should ever do. Megan doesn't have a particularly interesting story regarding her name — or if she does, she doesn't tell it. There's that one story about how she now has 3 names, and her identity was once stolen, but other than that, it's pretty drama-free. Around here, I call her "Peanut" which, believe it or not, I pilfered from an episode of CSI. (It was the name that CSI Nick Stokes called supervisory CSI Gil Grissom over the phone as an Internal Affairs agent walked by, so as not to raise suspicion that he was actually speaking with Grissom, who had been suspended.) Moxie gets called Poodle — short for Poodle Pup (dont ask me), wiggle-butt for what I hope are obvious reasons, and thump-thump because every animal needs an onomatopoeia as a name. Ollie goes by Squeaker or Squeaky (his onomatopoeia), and these days, rotten and a host of its synonyms, some more vulgar than others. (Do all cats have bipolar disorder?) With so much name drama, we had to be sure. You can't just name your baby anything. So we thought long and hard, eventually the obvious answer came to light, and a name was chosen: "Nublet." It's just a fetal nickname, so that everyone has something to call it, other than, "it." We don't know the sex yet, but once we do, we'll decide on a real name. We haven't decided whether or not we'll share that yet, but we will definitely share the sex, and you can call it Nublet until you know otherwise. :) So yeah, Megan's Preggers!
