Hairy Toes (40/365)

(40/365) Hairy Toes

The bokeh in this photo was originally accidental, but once I noticed it in my previews I re-shot to capture it intentionally. Looking back, although effectively accomplished, I don't think it adds anything to the photo. (It's a neat effect but uh… why?) But… here I am with this and a few out of focus yawn shots, so you and I will just have to share in my moment of self-criticism.

The subject was actually my hairy (and freakishly long) toes. Notice how toe #2 is hanging out waiting for the day when my big toe lets his guard down, when it will stage its coup and overthrow the big toe to take rank of longest toe by any means necessary.

There's probably a Flickr group for this somewhere… there is for everything else.

The blue light is from my Nyko Wiimote charge stations by the way, which are awesome.

To get the drastically narrow DoF, I used my 55-200mm lens and was just about as far away from my own foot as I could be and still see through the viewfinder to focus (manually!) on my toe hair.

Hiding (39/365)

(39/365) Hiding

Hiding can be so many things. This was inspired by something simple.

We've decided not to hand out candy on Halloween this year. The past few years we've felt very taken advantage of (the same kids obviously coming back 2, 3, or more times, parents taking candy "for the baby" — as if an infant needs a reese's cup…) and now we're feeling pretty jaded about the whole thing.

Not to mention the thought of sitting outside in the cold tomorrow — because it's not so much an every few minutes thing as it is a parade of children (and selfish parents) walking by, there's no point in going inside — is enough to tire us out today. So for now the plan is to shut off the lights and just enjoy a quiet night in; maybe rent a movie.

Black & white version here.

(38/365) All Your Internets

Today I'm at our datacenter in downtown Philly doing a server upgrade. I love these places with all my nerdy little heart.
