My Hell is the DMV

Unless you live in Maryland or an equally bass-ackwards state, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about when I say I hate the DMV. (MVA, for you Marylanders)

We knew before we left the house on Saturday morning that we were basically surrendering hours of our lives to their long lines, and the inevitable headaches and frustrations. What we weren't prepared for was a predicted 3 hour wait (when we walked in and got our ticket, at the bottom it read: "Approximate wait time: 2:48"), to be followed by some of the stupidest law/rules/whatever that Pennsylvania and/or the DMV has to offer. We left 4 hours later and I was simply dumbfounded by the idiocy we endured.

When we were married, Megan took her maiden name as her middle name. On our marriage license and certificate, she is listed as Megan Rhodes Tuttle. On her Maryland drivers license, Social Security Card, checking account, and the utility bills they required us to bring (but never asked for), she is Megan Rhodes Tuttle. Because they have a record of her previous PA license, they had to update that. When they tried to change her marital status – and name – they told her they couldn't change her middle name. No amount of arguing that we did with the worker, or her supervisor, got us anywhere. They told us, "That's just how it works, we need a court document." (yes, we argued that the marriage certificate was a court document) and brushed us off. So Megan got her new license, but it has the wrong name on it and she'll have to suffer through the whole ordeal again when she gets her name pennsylvania-approved, or whatever.

I hate dealing with the DMV. They prove to be a thorn in my side every opportunity they get.

(related note: on her car title she's still Megan Beth Rhodes, so now she has 3 names!)
