All Hallow's Een
I don't have any spooky stories to tell you – but my brothers and I have worn our share of costumes, so I thought I'd tell you about some of those. In the beginning there were a bunch of store-bought costumes – the jumper and a plastic mask with a single elastic thread that would inevitably snap, and one staple on either side to hold the strap to the mask. Storm trooper, Superman, Hulk Hogan, Clown.
Sometimes we were hobos (fat and dirty), or dead people (white face, scars, blood), or a mummy wrapped in gauze.
I was a vampire for at least 4 years in a row. By the the time we retired the costume, I think my wig looked more like the matted fur of a gorilla than anything else. The best part about this costume was that in the early years it scared the pants off of my youngest brother, Jared. With my gorilla hat, plastic cape, and white face paint I would chase him around the house until he cried or I got in trouble – whichever came first, though they usually coincided.
Justin was once a die – a cube made of white poster board with black dots drawn on in marker, and white face paint and a dot on his nose. That was probably the most creative costume mom ever came up with until the year Jared was a green crayon – just a poster-board tube with arm holes. The only problem with that one was that there wasn't much room for him to move his legs (also known as walking).
Then there was college.
My roommates and I dressed up as catholic school girls one year. That was the year I found out I wear a size 6 skirt. I also got my butt pinched a few times walking around at Fell's Point, but I don't care to know who was doing the pinching. Jarad and I bought lame plastic wigs and John put his long hair up in pig tails.
Last year Megan and I were M&M's (But I think we forgot to bring our camera to the party); and this year, of course, we were characters from Scrubs.
What are some of your favorite childhood (or even adult) costumes?
