TuttleTree Holiday Letter version 1.0

A little belated, but here nonetheless. It's our honor to (finally!) present to you, our first annual Holiday letter. :) It's been a cuh-razy year, that's for sure! We started out with a bang in January when Adam moved into a duplex on Main Street in Salisbury. It was a deal that we couldn't let slip through our fingers and turned out to be a great move for us. The yard was a little small for a large(r) dog, which Megan knew she wanted, but all in all it was so much space for so little rent that we just had to take it.

In March, as you may know, Megan and Adam got engaged! It was supposed to happen on April 1st – our one year dating anniversary – but once Adam had all of the pieces to the puzzle he was overcome by excitement and there was no stopping him. He went to Megan’s apartment on the evening of the 24th, as was standard procedure as of late; and waited for a good time to enact his plan. After dinner Adam told Megan that he had her Anniversary present with him and that, if she wanted, she could open it. Of course Megan left the decision up to Adam; who tried not to push it on her too hard, but at the same time practically require her to take her gift early.

The gift was a heart-shaped locket, engraved with both of their initials… except Megan’s were misspelled. Instead of "MBR", it read "MBT". After minutes that seemed like days, Megan finally noticed that the engraving was not quite correct and pointed it out to Adam. After careful inspection, Adam agreed that it was indeed engraved wrong, and assumed aloud that the shop must have assumed we were married and written down the wrong letters. He explained that there were 2 options we could take to rectify the situation: (1) Take it back and demand a refund/exchange, or (2)…

At this point Adam pulled another box from his pocket, got down on one knee, and then finished, "We could change your last name. Will you marry me?" The rest, as they say, is history.

As if that wasn't enough excitement for one year, we're just getting started. In April we celebrated a full year together by re-enacting our first date: A small Italian restaurant and then bowling. To help spread the wonderful news, we also put together our website, TuttleTree.com (which, at this point, you should be fairly familiar with. ;)

In May, Megan's lease ended at her apartment and she moved into the duplex with Adam. After much mixing and matching of experienced furniture, we ended up with a nearly completely furnished house! A few days later and more trips to the Wicomico County Humane Society than we can remember, and we had ourselves a puppy! We brought Moxie home on the 6th and, surprisingly, Ollie didn't immediately hide and/or hate us. As a matter of fact, the two of them get along pretty well these days; and are often seen licking each other or sleeping in close proximity to one another.

We're not exactly sure when this happened, but it was exciting so we'll guesstimate that it was in May and include it anyway. One night, when we returned home from an evening on the town with friends, we found our front door locked from the inside; unable to open! After trying the key in the back door, and attempting to use the fence around the back yard to boost Adam up onto the roof where there were open windows (it was summer, after all!), all unsuccessfully, we had to ask the neighbor if Adam could climb out her bedroom window and across the roof on the front of the house to our office window! It wasn't easy, but he made it. Lesson learned: don't use that type of lock! Adam removed it first thing the following morning!

In September, 6 months of planning, stressing, and meeting with people came to fruition in the form of our beautiful Wedding! On the 17th of September, we were married outside the Fountains Conference Center in Salisbury. The day flew right by, and to be honest, it's still pretty surreal when we think that we are officially adults now… Qualified to have kids without question or complaint, to make life-changing decisions, and to get an excellent discount on car insurance! Woohoo! All kidding aside, it still surprises us when we realize that we are still newlyweds now, only three months later! The wonderful thing about this digital format for the holiday letter is that we have the ability to do this: For our honeymoon we took a Western Caribbean Cruise on Carnival. If you'd like to know more about our honeymoon, there's a whole post about it here, pictures and all!

In November Megan and Adam drove 700+ miles (on Friday) from Salisbury to Indianapolis for John & Maggie's Wedding (on Saturday), and back (on Sunday). It was a long drive, but well worth it. There's a lot of pictures from the trip up in the Photo Gallery. And yes… we saw the Weinermobile.

In an attempt to round out an eventful year, Adam thought he would throw another wrench in the gears and accept a job offer in Pennsylvania! We're still in the process of hunting down a temporary home in the area, and once that gets nailed down, we're going to begin searching for a more permanent home… to BUY! This year also marks our first Christmas together, Moxie's first Christmas, and Ollie's second. Last, but surely not least, with both our family and the 1G Tuttles moving out of the area, we decided it would be in our best interests to sell the house that Adam and his Dad were partners in owning and renting. The house sold, so Adam is no longer officially a "home owner".

I think that about does it for this year. See you in another 365 days. :)

Percy

A friend of mine and I were leaving work last week when she mentioned that she found it to be an interesting coincidence that Percy showed up right about the time that Frank Perdue died, and that he doesn't seem to leave. Ever. Percy is a pigeon, and got his name from the (now former) day security guard, Dave.

Dave said he had seen Percy hanging out at the grain facility down the street on occasion, but mostly he just hung out outside the front door of the lobby.

If you know one thing about Frank Perdue, know that the man was relentless about his work. People often muse about him working more than 60 hours a week; which is probably true considering the time he spent in the office, the time he spent talking business with his family at home, and his Business trips.

I don't believe in reincarnation, but this seems somehow appropriate. It's almost like he's here, watching over us.

Big news!

Well, if you haven't heard already, we're moving!

I've accepted a job offer from a company in Wayne, PA; and Megan and I will be looking to move into the Kennett Square or surrounding areas some time around the end of January.

Of course this decision didn't come easily. It means that we'll be leaving my parents and fraternity brothers behind; but it also means that we'll be a lot closer to our friends in northern Delaware, to Megan's parents, and to Sue, Ed, and Cora. None of those were the reason for taking the job and moving, but they were all things we did have to consider.

I'll be working for E-Tech Solutions, doing technology consulting – mostly consisting of Cold Fusion and HTML development early on, and then probably branching out into ASP and VB.NET, and any other related technologies. Just between you and me, I'd love to get my hands on a Ruby on Rails environment (just because I keep hearing about it and I'd like to see it in action).

My last day at Perdue is Thursday, December the 8th, and I start at E-Tech on the 12th. For what will probably prove to be a very quick few weeks – likely through mid to late January – I'll be spending weeknights at a town house in PA, and driving back to Salisbury on the weekends to be with Megan. Meanwhile, we'll be looking for a rental in the area to serve as a semi-permanent home until we find and are comfortable buying a house. No sense rushing into that. :)

Everyone at Perdue has been really supportive, athough sad, about me leaving. They all have very nice things to say and see that this position is a step in the right direction for my career.

Megan has talked to her boss and coworkers about the situation and they will all be sad to see her go, too. Fortunately I don't think there are too many social workers in any area, so we think Megan won't have much trouble finding a new job in the area. I hope I don't jinx it.

So there you have it. Now you know it all. :)
