A lovely thing to come home to

Methinks the cat has been getting onto the kitchen counter. A lovely thing to come home to Photo credit: Megan I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a way to teach the cat not to get up on the counters. He surely knows he's not supposed to — he never does while we're home. I'm thinking spike strips or those sticky roach-trap pads. The last one has the added hilarious benefit of coming home to find the cat lying on the floor with his feet stuck to the trap, crying because he can't move. Too cruel?

Weekly Winners #6

There are a lot of photos I took this week that I like a lot, so hopefully you don't mind me going a little nuts here. My Nephew with my Father In Law, Christmas morning.

I spent a lot of time this week working on my manual-focus skillz. You can't always count on auto-focus to get exactly what you want within a second or two, so you need to be ready to flip into manual focus and grab that odd shot before it disappears. (Not that the screen was going anywhere…)

This week Moxie joined the ranks of the Sith. Word around the water-cooler is that they have better dental and vision coverage.

Lord Moxie is displeased

Meanwhile, Ollie got something new to climb on… and won't even get squirted with the water gun for it!

You mean I can climb up here and you won't yell at me?

Megan took this final picture, so I can't take credit for it… but it definitely deserves some attention! Good job, Peanut!

I get a present?!

If you like my "Weekly Winners" photos, go check out some of the pictures posted by others. They are all linked at the bottom of this post, and more are added throughout the day.

Take my dog, please…

Yesterday when we got home we found this lovely little surprise waiting for us:

Anyone need a guard dog?

We got a UPS shipment and apparently Moxie didn't like the delivery guy very much. He's always barked at other dogs and the kids that walk by after school, and even bent the screen in front of this window last summer while it was open – but never actually broken anything. My best guess is that Moxie was taken by surprise and by the time he made it to the window the delivery guy was already on the porch… so Moxie got caught up in the moment and forgot to stop.

Our animals are crazy.

Ollie likes to sneak into places he knows he's not allowed. So he'll wait by a door if he hears you coming through, and try to slip past your feet. I'm usually pretty good about swinging my boats through quickly and pushing him back if he happens to be there, but the other day he got past Megan and into the garage. No big deal, it happens sometimes. If he doesn't want to come out right away or hides under the car then we'll just shut the door and let him have fun for a bit, and come back later. When we went to let him out, he was waiting for us:

By the way, if you have any tips on controlling Moxie's viciousness during the day while we're away, please let me know!
